This weekend, we’ll conclude our study of 1 John. We’ve seen this short letter lay down layer after layer of instruction on the relationship between knowing and loving in the Christian life, and John has one more layer to offer before he’s done. In 1 John 5:13-21, we’ll see him return to the issue of “knowing,” and how knowing the truth leads us to rest, resistance, and relationship.
This weekend we’ll study 1 John 5:1-12, where John points us to the testimony of the Spirit, the water, and the blood. Together we’ll discover why God wants His children to live with assurance rather than uncertainty. We’ll also share in Holy Communion as we remember Christ’s sacrifice and celebrate the life we have in Him.
This weekend, we’ll take a look at an iconic passage of Scripture that offers up some foundational truths. “God is love.” “Perfect love casts out fear.” “We love because he first loved us.” It’s one thing to be familiar with statements like these. But it’s another to be formed by them. In 1 John 4:15-21 we’ll explore what it takes to make these truths a reality in our lives.
THIS WEEKEND, we begin Living in Confidence, the final four-week series in our journey through 1 John. Pastor Sam will look at one of the Bible’s most well-known and often misunderstood statements: “God is love.” Together, we’ll discover how God’s love is revealed through Jesus and how receiving His love transforms the way we love others.
